ECU student, Antlers, Oklahoma resident Kacee Schier is Business Scholar

Ada, OK (05/06/2024) — Kacee Schier has learned some valuable skills as a student in East Central University's Stonecipher School of Business.

Perhaps one of the most critical is communication. Schier, from Antlers, Oklahoma, believes communication has been critical in her pursuit of a business administration degree with a marketing concentration.

"I am not merely stating communication, but fluid, successful communication," said Schier. "As I am going into the marketing field, communication is the basis of what my career centers on. Coworkers, superiors and any other companies that my company has relations with are just a few examples of those in which I will be in constant communication with."

By putting those communication skills to work, Schier has developed a successful academic foundation was named a Business Scholar for 2018-19.

The Business Scholars Program is designed for students not only for their academic achievements but also their ability to show leadership skills in a manner of being an extension of the university's faculty through the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business.

Students must have at least a 3.50 grade-point average before entering the program and must maintain at least a 3.25 each semester to remain in the program. They must also be active in the Business Leaders Association by attending meetings and holding positions of responsibility.

Besides being on campus for two or more years, the business scholars must be able to volunteer for special projects in the School of Business, participate in the Dean's Leadership Council, be willing to travel during assigned trips and, once they graduate, give back to the program after graduation as Alumni of Business Scholars.

Schier has garnered a wealth of business work experience by working the Welcome Center Office for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma Conference Centers at Falls Creek in Davis. Her responsibilities have included working in hotel guest and camper relations, maintaining office email, answering phone calls and performing various other office tasks.

Being a Business Scholar is a way to better yourself as person and professionally, according to Schier.

"I come from a family where the main professions include teaching, preaching and working in the oil field, so I have really taken a step out of my family's norm," Schier said. "I am trying to get all of the information and experience I can while at ECU before stepping into the professional world. By being a part of the Business Scholars, I whole-heartedly believe that I would be set to receive the best possible education and experience a ECU."

In preparation for the Business Scholars program, Schier has taken part in the Business Leaders Association.

"The BLA has been a great outlet for networking with other students, faculty and professionals in the community. I look forward to more meetings with this group," said Schier.
